Silverfish are Hostile Mobs that were added in Update 0.9.0.
Spawning[]
Silverfish spawn exclusively in Strongholds and Extreme Hills Biomes inside of Monster Eggs.
Behavior[]
When idle, Silverfish enter nearby Stone-related Blocks, turning them into Monster Eggs. When attacked and not killed, they also summon all Silverfish in a 21×11×21 area around them.
Combat[]
Silverfish can easily be killed using a Sword since they only have a melee attack. However, when attacked, all other Silverfish in the vicinity also attack the Player. Therefore, the Player should attempt to kill them in 1 hit so as to not awaken nearby Silverfish. This is possible by using a Diamond Sword or TNT.

- Silverfish are currently the smallest Mob in Minecraft.
- Silverfish are the first biome-exclusive Hostile Mobs.
- Silverfish take damage when walking on Soul Sand because they sink into it due to their small size.
- When the difficulty is set to Peaceful, breaking a Monster Egg will spawn a Silverfish that flashes and de-spawns instantly.
- One Silverfish Spawner can be found in the Portal Room of a Stronghold.
- It is present on the stairs leading to the End Portal.
