Update 0.2.0 |
Shears are a type of Tool added in Update 0.2.0.
Obtaining[]
Shears are mainly obtained through Crafting. After Update 1.0.4, Shears can be Traded for using Emeralds.
Crafting[]
- 2 Iron Ingots => 1 Shears
Usage[]
Shears have many uses:
- Shears are used to harvest Wool from Sheep without killing them. Upon shearing a Sheep, the Player will get 1-3 Wool, with the color of the Wool depending on the color of the Sheep Sheared.
- Shears are the only way to harvest Leaves, Vines, Dead Bushes, Tall Grass, and Ferns to obtain them as a placeable Block.
- Shears can be used on a Snow Golem to remove the Pumpkin from its head.
- Doing this drops the Pumpkin.
- Shears can be used on Mooshrooms to turn them into Cows and obtain Mushrooms.
- When used to destroy Wool Blocks, Shears are the fastest and take no durability damage while doing so.
- Shears can remove String from Tripwire Hooks without activating it.
- Shears can be used on melon blocks to get 9 melons from it, opposed to only up to 7 without them.
- After Update 1.3, shears will be usable on pumpkins to turn them into Carved Pumpkins. When doing this, pumpkin seeds will be dropped.
Trivia[]
- Shears break Stone slightly faster than hand, due to Shears being an Iron Tool.
- However, the Block itself will not drop if the Player does this.
- Bedrock Exclusive: Until Minecraft Java Edition 1.9, and as of Update 0.12.1, Shears can be used to remove the head of a Snow Golem.
- Shears make a snipping sound when used after Update 0.12.1.
- Shears cannot be Enchanted through Enchantment Tables, but can be though Anvils and Enchanted Books.
- However, they can only be Enchanted using the Unbreaking, Mending, and Efficiency enchantments.
- Unlike most tools, Shears don't lose durability when breaking Blocks they aren't meant for, such as Glowstone, Glass and so on.
- If a Dispenser containing a Shear is activated when a sheep is in front of the Dispenser, the sheep will be sheared leaving the pieces of wool on the floor.
