Name Tags are Items that were added in Update 0.15.0.
Obtaining[]
Name Tags can be Crafted with string and leather and can be obtained by Fishing or through Chests in Generated Structures such as Dungeons, Abandoned Mineshafts, etc. And after Update 1.0.4, they can also be Traded for using Emeralds.
Usage[]
Name Tags can be named by using an Anvil, and can be renamed any number of times. Once named, they can be used on a Mob to give it a name which will appear above it.
Name Tags can also be Enchanted therefore giving protection or enhancement to the Mob that wears it.
Trivia[]
- If a renamed Mob kills the Player, the death message will display the Mob's custom name.
- Easter Egg: If a Rabbit is named "Toast", it will change the rabbit's skin. This is a reference to the developer's friend's lost rabbit.
- Easter Egg: If a Mob is named "Dinnerbone", they will turn upside down. This also works for "Grumm".
- Easter Egg: If a Sheep is named "jeb_", its wool will go through the color spectrum.
- Easter Egg:: If a Vindicator is named "Johnny", it will attack any type of mob.
- This is a reference to The Shining.
- Naming a Mob will stop it from despawning.
- However, if the Mob was Hostile or Neutral (excluding Wolves and Iron Golems), they will despawn if the difficulty was set to Peaceful.
