Gameplay

Minecraft Pocket Edition Lite was the free version of Minecraft MCPE for iOS devices. It didn't include most of the features that the full version of Minecraft had. Its latest version was up to date with Update 0.2.1 of the full version, but without the world save functionality.

On Android devices, the exact same app was downloadable but was instead named Minecraft Pocket Edition Demo.

The app was removed off of all app stores in 2014.

Features[]

Minecraft Pocket Edition Lite/Demo had the following features:

  • Survival and Creative modes
  • Randomized worlds
  • Mobs (only pigs, sheep, and zombies)
  • Infinite tools (pickaxe, axe, shovel and shears)
  • Infinite wood (oak only)
  • Bricks
  • Sand
  • Gravel (old texture)
  • Dirt
  • Wool
  • Glass
  • Wooden Doors (oak only)
  • Torches

Restrictions[]

Minecraft Pocket Edition Lite/Demo had the following restrictions:

  • Worlds could not be saved, and seeds could not be used.
  • Only 28 out of the 49 items in the inventory could be selected.
  • Multiplayer was available, but only through LAN.

Trivia[]

  • Developers have once mentioned that they will update and release another demo/lite version of Minecraft Pocket Edition, although this has never happened.
  • Blocks that do not spawn naturally are available in the inventory in infinite amounts.
  • The default username on the iOS version is "Stevie" instead of "Steve".
  • Some sheep can drop other natural wool colors when sheared, despite all having white wool.
  • Enabling split touch controls increases your sensitivity and changes your item slot count from 7 to 3 on some devices.
  • The android version has grayed out items in the inventory that say 'Not available in the demo version', whereas the iOS version does not have this.
  • 'This server has restarted!' message will appear in the chat if you your device turns off or you exit the app, and can lag the game.
  • Google Play accounts which have downloaded the app before its removal are able to redownload it anytime; other accounts will get a standard "Requested URL not available."
    • iTunes accounts which have previously downloaded the app will have it saved to the App Store purchases. From here, the app can be redownloaded and played on any Apple device running iOS 10 or less. Unfortunately, the app is incompatible with devices running iOS 11 or higher as Apple stopped support for 32-bit apps.
