The Iron Sword, added in Update 0.3.2, is the second most powerful and durable Sword in Minecraft, topped only by the Diamond Sword. It deals 5 more damage points than that done by hand.

- It does equivalent damage to that done by a Diamond Axe.
- Iron Swords are relatively easy to Craft, as Iron Ore is more common due to Infinite Worlds and is also found as loot in Villages, Dungeons, and Strongholds.
- It is often featured in pop culture, like the Diamond Sword.
- Before Update 0.11.0, the Iron Sword was one of the only 3 Tools that existed in the Creative Mode Inventory. The others were the Iron Hoe and Iron Shovel.
