Update 0.14.0 |
A Dispenser is a Redstone-related Block that was added in Update 0.14.0.
Obtaining[]
Dispensers can be obtained by Crafting them in a Crafting Table. After Update 0.15.0 they also naturally generate in Jungle Temples as traps.
Crafting[]
- 7 Cobblestone + 1 Redstone + 1 Bow => 1 Dispenser
Usage[]
A Dispenser has 9 Inventory spaces, allowing for a maximum capacity of 576 Blocks. It is used to dispense Items and shoot projectiles out of it when powered by a Redstone signal. A single Item placed in a Dispenser will be dispensed when activated by a Redstone signal. There are some exceptions to this:
- It will shoot out Arrows, Snowballs, Splash Potions, Eggs, Fire Charges, or Firework Rockets if these items are placed in it.
- It will spawn Mobs if Spawn Eggs are put in it.
- It will dispense TNT as Primed TNT.
- It will set the block in front of it on fire if Flint and Steel is put in it.
- It will launch a flow of Water or Lava if their respective Buckets are put in it.
- It will use Bone Meal on the block in front of it.
- It will place Armor on the Player and Villagers if they are near it.
- It will place Minecarts if there is an adjacent Rail.
- It will place Boats if there is water in front of it.
Note: If activated, a Dispenser will disable the activity (i.e. dispensing Water, firing Arrows) with the next Redstone signal. It is not enough to stop sending the initial signal to the Dispenser.
Trivia[]
- A Dispenser will not splash a Potion if it is not a Splash Potion.
- While being similar to the Dropper, the Dispenser has a round opening.
- Dispensed Arrows have irregular flight patterns and do not do as much damage as Arrows shot from a Bow.
- Dispensers change textures when placed vertically or horizontally.
- A bucket of Water/Lava within a Dispenser is either full or empty, based on the state of the Dispenser.
- Dispensers and Droppers are often mistaken for each other due to their appearance and similar functions.
- Bug: In Update 0.15.0, there was a bug where in the Inventory, the Dispenser displayed the wrong texture.
- As of Update 1.1, Dispensers don't have a name when interacted with.
- However, if the Player renames the Dispenser with an Anvil, it'll display its custom name when interacted with.
