Update 0.4.0 |
Beds are Blocks that were added in Update 0.4.0.
Types[]
As of Update 1.1, Beds are available in all of the 16 Dye colors. Before Update 1.1, only Red Beds were available.
Obtaining[]
Beds are primarily obtained through Crafting. White, light blue, and brown Beds also generate naturally in Igloos. Naturally, red Beds generate in Villages.
Crafting[]
- 3 Wool (of same color) + 3 Wooden Planks => 1 Bed
- 1 Bed + 1 Dye => 1 (the color of Dye used) Bed
Usage[]
When the Player Sleeps in a Bed at night, the time automatically changes to day after a few seconds. A Bed is also used to mark a new spawn point, which overwrites the original spawn point until a new spawn point is set or the Bed is destroyed. It will also result in a message- “respawn point set”.
If it is Raining when the Player goes to sleep, when the Player wakes up, the Rain will be gone. This also works for Snow and Thunderstorms.
Beds also allow Entities to bounce on them, similar to Slime Blocks.
Incorrect Usage[]
- Attempting to sleep during the day will result in a message- "You can only sleep at night". However, this does set a new spawn point, which earlier wasn't possible without actually sleeping.
- Attempting to sleep when certain Mobs are close to the Bed will result in a message- "You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby."
- Attempting to sleep in the Nether or The End will cause the Bed to explode.
- Attempting to sleep when the Bed is too far away will result in a message- "Bed is too far away"
Trivia[]
- As of Update 1.1, Beds became the second bouncy block in Minecraft, the first being Slime Blocks.
- However, Beds will not save the Player from fall damage like Slime Blocks can.
- The legs of the Bed became slightly more 3-D, as of Update 1.1.
- The explosion of a Bed is equivalent to that of a Charged Creeper.
- When playing Multiplayer, all of the Players must be in Beds to skip the night.
- Before Update 0.11.0, if the Player's Bed was destroyed, the Player would respawn at the spot where his/her Bed used to be, instead of at the world spawn point.
- As of Update 1.1, Beds have a new sleeping animation.
- Sleeping to set a new spawn point doesn't affect a Compass, as the Compass will still point toward the world's original spawn point.
- However, changing the world spawn with Commands will change the Compass' direction.
- A Player is able to sleep as soon as the Clock face shows half night and half day, and until dawn.
- The Player can sleep before it reaches Light Level 4, which is how dark it must be for Hostile Mobs to spawn. Doing so can prevent Hostile Mobs from spawning outdoors.
